Vector Foundation funds new interdisciplinary junior research group to study PFAS impacts on the environment and human health. Vector Stiftung
The Vector Stiftung annually supports a junior research group at a university in Baden-Württemberg working on scientific or technical questions. This year, the selection committee awarded the funding to Dr. Lisa Marie Gölz.
At Heidelberg University, the ecotoxicologist investigates the mechanisms of long-lived human-made chemicals, known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Her research aims to understand the harmful effects of these substances on aquatic organisms and human cells. The new junior research group will work to identify and validate biomarkers that can detect both the presence and toxic effects of PFAS. Additionally, they will develop animal-free methods for risk assessment to promote environmental protection, human health, and sustainable regulation of these pollutants.
Lisa Marie Gölz studied biology and mathematics in Heidelberg. Her doctoral research focused on the effects of chemicals on the hormonal system of fish. The new interdisciplinary junior research group will be based at both the BioQuant and the Institute of Pharmacology at Heidelberg Medical Faculty.
