Ecotoxicologist Dr. Lisa Gölz has been awarded the €10,000 Environmental Prize from the Viktor and Sigrid Dulger Foundation for her doctoral dissertation at Heidelberg University.

In her research, Gölz investigated how chemical substances affect the hormonal system of fish—particularly the thyroid. She developed an innovative approach to integrate thyroid effects into standardized fish tests, demonstrating how hormone-like chemicals can impact not only thyroid function but also eye development in zebrafish.

Her work provides important new insights for environmental and animal protection, helps reduce the use of animals in toxicological testing, and broadens understanding of chemical impacts in aquatic ecosystems. The award was presented on January 17, 2024, by the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE).
